Maureen Singh, DVM
OWNER & VETERINARIAN
Dr. Maureen Singh was born and raised in southwest Florida. Inspired by a lifelong love of animals, she began working at her local veterinary hospital at just 14 years old with the goal of one day becoming a veterinarian. She earned her bachelor’s degree in Biology from Florida Southern College and went on to graduate from the University of Florida College of Veterinary Medicine in 2006.
In 2008, Dr. Singh relocated to Georgia with her husband. They have one son and share their home with two cats and two dogs. She joined the South Athens team in 2016 and purchased the clinic from Dr. Mosher in 2021, ensuring that South Athens would remain a privately owned practice.
Dr. Singh has special interests in feline medicine, dentistry and shelter medicine. Outside of work, Dr. Singh enjoys art festivals and traveling with her family, with the beach being her favorite destination.
John Hopkins, DVM
VETERINARIAN
Dr. Hopkins was born in Savannah, Georgia and was raised on the South Carolina coast by biologist parents. His childhood was spent alongside a variety of rehabilitated wildlife. After graduating from the University of Georgia, he had an accomplished career working in information technology, but ultimately decided to go back to his passion of caring for animals.
He graduated magna cum laude from the University of Georgia College of Veterinary Medicine in 2009, & has been serving small animal needs ever since.
A member of the American Association of Feline Practitioners, Dr. Hopkins’ interests include neurology & internal medicine. When he isn’t caring for his patients, he enjoys doing crossword puzzles & spending time with his wife, two children, & two cats.
Kiersten has been part of the South Athens team since 2017! She previously spent 6 years working at an elementary school doing Physical Education, where she discovered a love for working with people, gaining skills she now brings to caring for pets and their families. Known for her paws-itive attitude and fondness for a good pun, Kiersten enjoys adding a little comedic relief to every day. At home, she has a pack of dogs ranging from 5 lbs (Bambi, the local celebrity) to 85 lbs. Outside the clinic, she enjoys exploring local restaurants and breweries with her wife and dogs.

OFFICE MANAGER
Holly moved to Athens from Columbia, SC and graduated magna cum laude from Piedmont Technical College’s Veterinary Technology Program in 2016, and has been in veterinary medicine since. She joined the South Athens team in January 2025 and has been our newest addition! She enjoys working with senior pets and felines, as well as being a pet advocate and educating clients. When she’s not at work, you can find her spending time with her senior dog Kairi and (very opinionated) senior cat Kira.

Lauren has been caring for patients here at South Athens since 2010! She earned her degree in Veterinary Technology from Athens Technical College and has developed special interests in geriatrics, emergency and critical care, and client education. Lauren is passionate about helping pets stay comfortable throughout all life stages, and enjoys supporting owners in understanding how to best care for their animals. At home, Lauren and her husband stay busy with their two daughters, two dogs, and their senior cat. When she’s not at the clinic, you can usually find her in the garden, cheering at the softball field, or in the audience as a proud dance mom!

Katie is from a small town in Middle Georgia and has been with South Athens since 2023. She has a retired Guide Dog named Sylvia, who is an absolute angel, and a derpy girl named Sally, whom she and her fiancé Jake adopted together. Katie graduated from UGA in 2023 with a Bachelor of Science in Biology and in 2025 with a Bachelor of Science in Ecology. When she’s not making others smile at work, you can find her watching the Dawgs play or enjoying local restaurants with her friends!

Morgan has been part of the South Athens family since 2018! She earned her Bachelor’s degree in Animal Science from the University of Georgia and is currently enrolled in a Veterinary Technology program, working toward obtaining her technician license. Passionate about helping animals in and out of the clinic, Morgan has fostered more than 100 kittens and shares her home with four cats, a Labrador Retriever named Malibu, and a bearded dragon named Mushu!

Jennifer was born and raised in Charlotte, NC, and moved to Athens in 2015! A month after moving here, she walked into South Athens and had a job before she left the parking lot! She is a lover of cats, especially spicy torties. Her favorite thing to do when she’s off work is binge-watch true crime shows with her cats by her side (or on her lap)!

Kyle has been working at South Athens since June of 2024! He is currently a student at the University of Georgia, majoring in Biomedical Physiology with a minor in Biology, and is set to graduate in May 2026. His dream is to pursue a career in veterinary medicine. Kyle is a part of the barn staff for the UGA Equestrian Team, where he enjoys caring for their horses and spending even more time with animals. In his free time, he enjoys trying new recipes, learning film photography, and spending time with friends and his cat, Goose.

Sommer has worked at South Athens and been a part of our team since 2023. Prior to joining SAAC, Sommer got her Bachelor’s degree in Animal Science at UGA, studying dairy cows and working in poultry science research. After that, she obtained her Master’s degree in Biomedical Physiology, where she discovered a love for neurophysiology and the science of learning. Sommer is currently a DVM candidate at UGA’s College of Veterinary Medicine. She has found that working in clinical practice marries her love for learning and client interaction. Outside of school and work, she enjoys fishing, hiking, cooking, and spending time at home with her three cats, Sally, Frank, and Priscilla.

Grayson is from Fayetteville, Arkansas, where she grew up part of the Equestrian sport and started her career in veterinary medicine as a kennel attendant for her local animal hospital. She is a current veterinary student at the University of Georgia and is interested in small animal medicine and surgery. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Animal Science from the University of Arkansas and has been a member of the South Athens team since August 2024. In her free time, she enjoys going on walks and visiting the dog park with her 4-year-,old English Cream Golden Retriever, Molly, and traveling whenever she gets the chance. She loves country music and you can expect to hear George Strait’s greatest hits when she’s working up at reception.

Meet Bambi, our pint-sized, long-haired Chihuahua with a very big job title: Supervisor. As the clinic’s resident celebrity, Bambi can often be found overseeing daily operations from a cozy spot, ensuring everything runs smoothly. When she’s off duty, she enjoys spending time with her moms & siblings. Bambi’s greatest talent is accepting compliments… being told how cute she is is her absolute favorite task. If you see her around the clinic, feel free to say hello; she expects the attention.

Angela joined South Athens Animal Clinic in the fall of 2023. She felt that after working a life of retail, hanging out with cats and dogs all day was a much-needed change! Angela is married with three sweet dogs and one cat, who occasionally tries to kill her by remaining underfoot! When she’s not at the front desk, she enjoys spending time with her family and doing all different types of arts and crafts.

Liz has been part of the South Athens team since August 2017. Liz worked for the UGA Animal Resources Department as a Facilities Manager, Veterinary Technician, and Quality Assurance Technician before joining our team. She has worked with a variety of animals in the research world-rodents, primates, fish, horses, and cattle, to name a few. At work, she enjoys helping clients understand their pet’s needs and behaviors while facilitating quality veterinary care. At home, she likes to garden, cook, and explore the great Athens music scene.

Addie has been a part of the South Athens team since 2023 and has spent most of her life surrounded by animals of all kinds. While she enjoys caring for the feline and canine patients she meets each day, her true passion lies with equines, a love that began when she was just six years old. In her free time, Addie continues to expand her equine education, does hoof trimming, and spends time with her horse named Scout. At home, she is kept company by her two black cats, Bear and Purple.

Bethany moved to Georgia from Oregon and has been with our team since 2024. Her career in veterinary medicine started in Hawaii over 34 years ago, and she has loved working with people and helping to make pets happy! Outside of work, Beth loves spending time with her dog, Kolohe, and her husband, exploring the areas of Georgia; she also enjoys FaceTiming with her family in California.

Jessica has been a valued member of the South Athens family since 2019. Although she doesn’t have pets of her own, she frequently pet-sits throughout Athens and the surrounding areas, caring for every animal as if it were her own. Known for her bubbly personality and bright smile, Jessica brings positivity to both clients and coworkers alike. When she’s not at the clinic, you can likely find her enjoying live music at a concert or spending quality time with her nieces and nephew.

Owen is South Athens’ only Junior Veterinary Assistant! He helps out during the summertime and when he’s not working hard in school! When Owen grows up, he wants to go to vet school to become a veterinarian! He currently has four pets at home: two dogs and two cats. When he’s not working, you can find him running cross country, playing basketball, computer programming, or making awesome YouTube videos of his silly orange cat, Mac.
