• An AAHA (American Animal Hospital Association) accreditation signifies that our clinic meets or exceeds stringent quality standards encompassing all aspects of veterinary medicine, and is committed to a path of continuous improvement. Every 3 years, AAHA member hospitals undergo an extensive and exhaustive review process to assess the measures in place, assuring the practice of quality medical care focuses on the safety of both pets and people. South Athens is proud to be AAHA certified for over 35 years!

  • Feline Friendly Practices (or Cat Friendly Practices) must undergo specific steps to understand cats’ unique needs and show that they have properly implemented feline-friendly standards of care. We are committed to making a cat’s healthcare more pleasant for both the owner and the cat, keeping appointments as low-stress as possible.

  • Yes! Please visit our Services page to access our New Patient/New Client form or give us a call to get set up in our system.

  • Our office sees patients by appointment only. Please give us a call ahead of time so we can be sure to give you and your pet the time and attention you deserve.

  • We are currently here Monday - Friday from 8:00 AM - 6:00PM. We recommend visiting one of our trusted emergency vets in the area if your pet is experiencing an after-hours emergency or urgent medical need. We receive emailed discharges upon checkout and will call you the next business day to follow up on your fur baby.

  • At South Athens, we try to do whatever is best for your pet, which varies from animal to animal. When your pet is here for a doctor’s appointment, you will be in the room with your pet through the entirety of the exam. Sometimes we bring pets to the treatment area to draw blood or collect urine. If your pet is visiting for a technician appointment, we will often bring them back to our treatment area to quickly do their vaccinations if there are no rooms available.

  • Unfortunately, we do not allow owners to hold their dog or cat during their appointments. Our trusted technicians and veterinary assistants are trained in proper holding techniques for dogs and cats alike. We encourage you to stay close and comfort your pet, but for safety reasons, our staff needs to be the ones holding during exams, procedures, and vaccinations.

  • Give our office a call at 706-353-8970 to receive accurate and up-to-date pricing on our services.

  • We recommend purchasing a carrier that opens from the top, so removing your cat from the carrier is as low-stress as possible. Check out this website for more information on getting your cat to the clinic in the least stressful way possible!

  • While nothing beats brushing your furry friends’ teeth, the VOHC (Veterinary Oral Health Council) has a full list for approved cat and dog dental products! Click here to access!

At South Athens, we also recommend ProDen PlaqueOff Powder, a VOHC-appepted supplement made from natural kelp that helps reduce plaque, tartar, and bad breath.

  • Yes, yes, yes! All it takes is one bite from an infected mosquito for your dog to become infected with heartworms! Even if your dog only goes outside to use the bathroom or go from one place to another, we recommend always keeping them on a heartworm preventative.
